The monasteries of Vilnius
Take a look to the monasteries of the capital of country that was one of the last pagan nations in Europe. Suprisingly from adoption of Christianity a lot of churches and monasteries began to grow in Vilnius. Today Vilnius has 26 currently populated monasteries, not to mention plenty of those that are used for other purposes. We will be happy to show you the most beautiful and memorable monasteries of Vilnius old city in few hours.
Throughout centuries, monasteries have been an inherent part of cultural landscape in Europe. Ordinary people would find a hardship shelter there, prayers would stay there during their trips to the sacred places, children of noble and peasant relatives would be educated and raised there. In the monasteries, monks would devote themselves for transcribing books, accepting confessions, educating youngsters or giving advices on spiritual life. The monasteries would often become centers of agricultural development, culinary discoveries and knowledge of medicine.
During this excursion, we will visit the former residences of monks and try to open the door to the spiritual scenery of Vilnius, the Vilnius of Monasteries. Maybe the monks themselves will show up for a conversation…
