Jewish history in Vilnius
Have you heard that Vilnius was used to be called Lithuanian Jerusalem? We can take you back to to the streets, that still remember those days.
Jewish community was established in Vilnius only in the junction of 16 and 17th centuries. What privileges led to establishing so late in the most attractive city of the republic – the capital? Join us to learn how the Jewish block was formed in the Oldtown and why Vilnius used to be called Lithuanian Jerusalem. This is where the grand Jewish genius emerged in 17th century, this is where more than 110 synagogues were open on the eve of the World War II.
And this is where the great tragedy befell…
During this excursion, we will visit the former Jewish ghettos, an open synagogue and the Green House, the former Jewish theater.
