Sveiki! Welcome to Lithuania!
The Republic of Lithuania is situated on the Baltic coast in Eastern Europe. The European Union (EU) and the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) membership have made Lithuania leap into the international arena. It neighbours Belarus, Poland, Latvia and Russia and is well known for its lakes, forests and castles. A stay in a Lithuania Hotel can be an exciting experience with a large variety of accommodation options to choose from. Though the country has undergone vast economic development, it also retains ties with its nature loving, glorious pagan past.
Representing its rich cultural heritage, Lithuania has beautiful gothic, classic and baroque brick structures, with about 30 towns and settlements that are almost 750 years old. This peace-loving state has preserved places of varied religious faiths. This is evident from the many Orthodox and Protestant churches, Tartar temples and Jewish synagogues you get to visit here. Ancient architectural styles are seen in the many churches, palaces of noblemen, manors and elegant monasteries. Vilnius, Trakai, Kaunas and Klaipeda are some of the oldest and most beautiful towns in the world.
Lithuania offers a large variety of things to see and do during your travels. You can go sightseeing, get a glimpse of ancient Lithuanian culture and architecture, and the enchanting scenery of this Baltic state with its maze of lakes, lush landscapes, natural resorts, rich regional reserves, parks and hill resorts. It has 10 castles belonging to different eras and styles, with many hill forts and other fortifications. All these places are well connected via road and air routes.
Vilnius is the capital city of Lithuania. It is a beautiful place located in a charming valley, and encircled on three sides by forested hills. It is a combination of all things modern and ancient. Vilnius is the cultural and administrative centre of Lithuania. Forty of the many ancient churches still exist here, along with many beautiful parks and museums.
Whether you are seeking budget-style guesthouses or top end hotels in Lithuania, there are many interesting options to choose from, as well as some great Lithuania tours. Use our map of Lithuania to choose your hotel based on its location.
The Old Town
The Old Town in Vilnius is a UNESCO World Heritage Site covering one tenth of the city area. It is situated in the middle of the capital. It is an enchanting valley formed by the two rivers, Vilnia and Neris (Vilija in Medieval ages). The Old Town in Vilnius is one of the largest old town centres in Eastern Europe. It has some of the most beautiful architectural wonders, and attracts travelers from all over the world. With its vast history and natural beauty, Vilnius is the starting point for many popular Lithuania Tours.
If you are a nature lover, Lithuania is the place to go. For a place that reveres all things in nature, it is only natural that such a place has the best-preserved greenery, parks and environment. It has the most charming locations, with beautiful forests and parks protected by the Curonian Spit National Park. The State Cultural Reserve, comprising the complex of the Kernave hill forts, is a feast to the eyes. The Insular Castle is the biggest castle in Central and Eastern Europe. The National Parks of Zemaitija, Dzukija and Aukstaitija form one of the largest areas abounding with ethnic regions and historic sites. Visitors can enjoy fishing in the waterways and along the Baltic coast.
The Medieval Festival
The Medieval Festival is held in the pretty town of Trakai every year, in the month of June. People enthusiastically witness the enacting of sword and battleaxe fights between knights, and are instantly transported to the medieval era. They also get a unique opportunity to taste traditional food and drink and also purchase handicrafts made by the locals.
Lithuania is growing fast as an international travel spot. For people in search of exquisite scenery, ancient gothic buildings and castles, and a rich traditional culture, Lithuania is a must visit.
